Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair and a running buggy. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • There are 2 x two seater buggies and a 1 x four seater buggy for hire. Visitors can enquire at the visitor centre. They are stored in the buggy shed which is located opposite the Monument Café parking area.

Route to (Duncombe Terrace)

  • Exit the visitor centre and proceed ahead towards the gate and turn right along the path and then turn left along the path towards Bridgewater Tower.
    At the Bridgewater Tower turn right towards the bollards and the start of the Duncombe Terrace Walk.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are muddy and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the right of the Bridgewater Monument.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • There are bollards at the access point which have a minimum width of 144cm and are 66cm high.
  • The bollards contrast visually with the ground.
  • There is another wood bollard/stump that does not contrast visually with the ground.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland, woodland and open countryside.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: compact earth, uncompacted earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes with handrails in the main areas .
  • The only area which has slight slope and handrails is the wooden bridge which is on the main walk.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 2 miles.
  • Starting at the Duncombe Terrace access point take the path that leads into a large area of woodland. There are lots of waymarked trails.
    There is a wooden bridge to cross and a large log bench to sit down and enjoy the views. Continue along the track to Clipper Down. This is the end of the trail, so turn around and return by the same route (recommended for those with wheelchairs or mobility scooters).
  • The walk is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: grass, wood and mud.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps and handheld maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
