Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass, activity sheets, soft toy and accessible maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (Lady's Mile Walk)

  • After exiting the visitor reception entrance, turn right and pass through the archway to the car park.
    Beyond the archway continue along the side of the house, then turn right and pass the front of the house towards the trees.
    Take the path to the left of the tall trees to Lady's Mile Walk.
    There are steps down to the walk here or continue through the rose garden to use a steep slope which bypasses the steps instead.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • Access into the area is via steps and a steep ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps).
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • The access points to the area are located to the rear of the rose garden and on either side of the rose garden.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • The steep slopes lead down from the far side of the rose garden.
    The steps lead down from the near side of the rose garden.
    There are slight slopes throughout the walk.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 1 mile long.
  • The walk follows a mile long loop around the estate through woodland areas.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: grass, compacted gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and steps.
  • These are found in the following areas: at the far side of the rose garden near Ardress House.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
