Route to (Anglesey Abbey)

  • Upon exiting the visitor reception, follow the path signposted to Anglesey Abbey house
    Continue along the path until you reach the house.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Entrance (Main Entrance)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the house.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 3 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.
  • The handrails do not cover all steps.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • This entrance has a bell.
  • Features at a suitable height for a wheelchair user include: the bell.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 73cm.

Entrance (Living Room)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the house.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep ramp is under 75cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the step.

Entrance (Tapestry Hall and Dining Room)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the rear right side of the house.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep portable ramp is under 75cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The ramp overcomes the step.
  • Please contact a member of staff for use of the portable ramp.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.

Entrance (Domestic Wing)

  • The entrance surveyed is located on the right side of the house.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 84cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Tour

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 40 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour can be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via an information booklet and a photo album.

Toilet with Adaptations (next to Anglesey Abbey House - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located in the toilet block immediately next to Anglesey Abbey House.
  • Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • This toilet is approximately 30m from the main entrance.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 94cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 149cm x 146cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 90cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical rail on the left side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder, toilet roll holder on the dropdown rail and soap dispenser.

  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

  • There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
