Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and a mountain trike. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, activity sheets and accessible maps.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- For use of the electric mountain trike, please contact the property directly.
Although a booking is not required, it is recommended that mobility equipment is reserved in advance.
Outdoor Spaces (Acorn Bank Estate Grounds)
- This information is for the access point located adjacent to the ticket kiosk.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The width of the gap is 164cm.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel, compact earth, uncompacted earth and loose stones.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- The slight slopes are located on the main paths around the grounds, with a steep slope to access the picnic area near the ticket kiosk.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.

Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located to the left as you enter through the Ticket Kiosk entrance.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope and a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is an alternative access point located to the rear of the picnic area.
- There are tables, bench seats and picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 60cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 82cm.
- The surface height of the lowest table is 66cm.
- The surface height of the highest table is 85cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to compacted earth and grass.
Outdoor Spaces (Formal Gardens)
- This information is for the access point located in front and to the right of the courtyard entrance.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The width of the gap is 119cm.
- There are multiple permanently held open gates throughout the formal gardens.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens and gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel, compact earth and loose stones.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
