Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, activity sheets and accessible maps.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • For use of the electric mountain trike, please contact the property directly.
    Although a booking is not required, it is recommended that mobility equipment is reserved in advance.

Entrance (Tearoom And Tearoom Toilets)

  • The entrance surveyed is located on the left-hand side of the café courtyard.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 87cm.

Entrance (Rear Tearoom Entrance)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the house, to the right of the oval lawn.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 94cm.
  • This entrance is used as an alternative tearoom entrance for wheelchair users. A member of staff must be notified to open the door.

Eating and Drinking (Lakeland Coffee)

  • This is a kiosk which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered and table service (on request only).
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: menu boards.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups and a portable card machine for payment.
  • There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.
  • The counter is 145cm high.
  • There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the seating area.
  • There are tables and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the seating area.

Changing Places (Courtyard - Left-Hand Transfer)

    • The facility is not additional to standard and accessible toilets, and is located close to other managed facilities.
    • There is a sign at the entrance to the Changing Places facility indicating the location of the nearest toilets and baby changing facilities.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 90cm.
    • The door has a twist lock.
    • Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
    • The door has a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 220cm x 266cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
    • The transfer space on the left as you face the toilet is 143cm.
    • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, vertical grab rails on both sides of the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.

  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • The shared standard toilet was surveyed.
  • The wash basin tap type is twist/turn.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are no hand dryers.
  • There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

Standard Toilet (Tearoom)

  • Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 73cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 60cm.

  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
