Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and communication cards.

- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper and a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Barnyard Picnic Area)
- Exit from the visitor reception and shop exit door and turn right, proceed up a slight slope and the picnic area is ahead.
- The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are gravel, muddy and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located to the rear of the visitor reception and shop.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are available.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 73cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.
Toilet with Adaptations (Barnyard - Accessible - Left Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located within the toilet block in the picnic area.
- Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 92cm.
- The door has a lever twist lock.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 255cm x 180cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 200cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a lever flush on the non transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical grab rail on the transfer side.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder.
- The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: wash basin, soap dispenser, towel dispenser and hand dryer.

- The cubicle does not have a full length mirror.
- The height of the coat hook is 121cm from the floor.
- The following have a high colour contrast with their surroundings: some grab rails, the floor and the internal door.
- The following have a less clear colour contrast with their surroundings: some grab rails, the dropdown rail and the toilet seat.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
Standard Toilet (Barnyard - Female)
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 70cm.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 66cm.
- The wash basin tap type is push.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
- There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- To enter the female toilet block there is an external gate with an opening width of 67cm.
Standard Toilet (Barnyard - Male)
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- The door is manual, permanently held open and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 80cm.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 77cm.
