Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, magnifying glass, soft toy and communication cards.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor welcome hut. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Second-hand Bookshop)

  • Exit the car park and go past the visitor welcome hut.
    Continue along the path and go past the hall.
    Turn left as you pass the hall and go up the ramp and through the corridor.
    At the end of the corridor turn left the entrance to the bookshop is on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, cobbles and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (Second-hand Bookshop)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the bookshop in the servant's wing courtyard.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.
  • There is a second manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.

Shop

  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • Flooring in the shop is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the shop.
  • Access around the shop is via steps.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • Donations are made via the honesty box. Card payments can be made in the café.
