Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass and torch.
  • You can borrow these from Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (Woods)

  • Head to the side of the car park away from Visitor Reception.
    The access point to the Woods is ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located at the far side of the car park from Visitor Reception.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 123cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel, compact earth and uncompacted earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • The path into the woods has a steep slope, after which most paths are either steeply or slightly sloped.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (Woodland Walk)

  • The walk is approximately 2.5 miles.
  • From the car park, follow the main path into the woodland.
    Continue along this path, following the orange arrows at waymark points.
    This route goes out into the woods, the circles back towards Nymans.
  • The hike is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: compacted gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients, steps and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: throughout the walk.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps and online maps.
  • Seating is not available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
