Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass and torch.
- You can borrow these from Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (Welcome Café)
- Exit Visitor Reception and head to the right.
Turn left down the far side of the Café, and the accessible entrance is on the left. - The route to the area is step-free level.
- Path surfaces along the route are paving stones and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the right side of the café.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a single automatic door which opens by sliding.
- The width of the opening is 110cm.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.

- The surface height of the lowest table is 71cm.
- The surface height of the highest table is 75cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.
Entrance (Toilet Block)
- The entrance surveyed is located to the left of the Welcome Café.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 110cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.

- The door has a lever twist lock.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The door does not have a horizontal grab rail.
- The dimensions of the facility are 390cm x 270cm.
- The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.

- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 86cm.
- The door has a lever twist lock.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 190cm x 215cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is not a lateral transfer space next to the seat.
- There is a lever flush on the right, but there is no transfer space.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the left as you face the toilet, a vertical grab rail on the left as you face the toilet, a vertical grab rail on the right as you face the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
