Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass and torch.
  • You can borrow these from Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (Play Glade)

  • Exit Visitor Reception and head right.
    Turn left into the Top Garden.
    Follow the path to the left, then to the right when it turns towards the house.
    The entrance to the Play Glade is ahead to the left, just in front of the Second Hand Bookshop.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Play Glade)

  • This information is for the access point located on the left on the path towards the house, just before the Second Hand Bookshop.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 150cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: wood bark.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes with handrails in the main areas.
  • There are slight slopes throughout the play area.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a fenced play area with an entrance over 100cm wide.
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is in easy reach for seated and standing users, and users of different heights.
    • The following play experiences are available: climbing, balancing, viewing, sensory (visual, audible and or tactile).
