Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (Garden)
- On exiting the Visitor Centre, turn left and follow the path over the bridge.
Turn right after the bridge and continue until you arrive at the entrance to the courtyard on the left.
There are bollards with poor contrast at the entrance.
Cross the courtyard, bearing to the right of the house.
The ramped entrance to the gardens is on the left. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located to the right of the house.
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The access points to the area are located to the right of the house.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment and formal gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: wood bark, grass and bonded gravel.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are more than 3 steps without handrails and slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
- There are slopes at various points in the garden. The steps are at the rear right of the garden, leading to a raised terrace area with seating.

- Some chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 69cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 66cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass and gravel.
