Route to (the Nature Reserve)

  • Leave the car park and turn right onto Town Lane.
    Walk for approximately 200 metres and the open access point is on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The access points to the area are located in Town Lane, approximately 200 and 300 metres from visitor reception.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 105cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel, compact earth, uncompacted earth, loose stones and wood.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.

Hikes and Trails (Estuary Walk - Short)

  • The trail is approximately 1.5 miles long.
  • The route commences along Town Lane to the gate giving access to Causeway Lake.
    After following the bank, the route moves across a field and then along the road to a path that takes the visitor to the saltmarsh.
    The route circles the saltmarsh and then returns to visitor reception via Town Lane.
  • The hike is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, grass, compacted gravel, wood and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: along the bank of the Causeway Lake.
  • There are alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
