Summary

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: trampers. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • There are charges to borrow trampers.
  • To borrow the trampers you have to be a member of the Access Mobility or you can join for the day.

Route to (Parkland)

  • From the visitor centre continue straight ahead through the gate, then immediately turn right and through another gate. Follow the path downhill to the adjoining path to the waymarked route.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth and muddy.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (To Parkland)

  • The entrance surveyed is located right of the visitor centre.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual gate which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 98cm.
  • There is a steep slope between 75cm and 150cm wide beyond the entrance, with no handrails.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 2 miles.
  • This guide details the orange route, which is advertised as the most accessible route of the three walks that are available. The walk starts from the folly at the bottom of a very steep slope and follows a loop around the woodland. There are steep slopes without handrails along the entire route.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, grass, gravel, compacted gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: The steep gradients are throughout the trail.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards without maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
