Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • The chapel has a stair climber to overcome the steps to the entrance.

Route to (the Parklands)

  • Exit the visitor reception and turn left.
    Continue ahead over the raised walkway to Market Place.
    There is a steep slope which bypasses the steps at the end of the raised walkway.
    The trail starts on the path to the left and goes through the walled garden, then right and left onto The Avenue.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and wood.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
  • The visitor shuttle takes visitors to Market Place to start the trail.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located through the walled garden.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are steep slopes in some areas.

Hikes and Trails (Explorer Trail - Orange)

  • The trail is approximately 2.2 miles long.
  • The route goes through the walled garden and onto The Avenue, going past the ruins of the house on the left.
    The route continues along The Avenue towards the stables, then turns left towards the woods.
    Continue through the woods and downhill towards the strawberry castle play area and then back to Market Place.
  • The hike is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: loose chippings, compacted gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: along the trail.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.
