Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, activity sheets, soft toy and communication cards.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • Adult and child sensory packs are available.

Route to (East Riddlesden Hall)

  • Exit the car park and follow the path ahead.
    At the fork in the road turn left and continue along the path to the shop.
    Go through the shop and out of the exit at the rear of the shop.
    The entrance to the hall is on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
  • To avoid the steps in the shop, staff can remove the barriers and allow visitors to continue straight ahead up to the hall.
    In summer season the route to the hall is directly ahead, avoiding the shop.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the hall.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 125cm.
  • The entrance opening has a minimum height of 200cm.

Tour

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 45 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour can not be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via an information booklet and a video on tablet or mobile phone.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • Tour information includes the following formats: pictorial and information board.
  • The tour does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are chairs without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet and uneven floorboards.
  • Some of the flooring includes large repeating patterns in bold colours, which may look like steps or holes to some people.
  • Lighting levels are low throughout the tour route.

Stairs (Right)

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1.
  • There are more than 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with a partial handrail.
  • The highest step is 21cm high.
  • Lighting levels are low.

Stairs (Left)

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1.
  • There are 18 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with no handrails.
  • The highest step is 20cm high.
  • Lighting levels are low.
  • If visitors are unable to go down the stairs due to there being no handrail, they can use the right stairs.
