Admissions

  • At this location the following are free to access for all visitors: access to the garden and estate.
  • Parking is free for National Trust members and Blue Badge holders but chargeable for all other visitors.

Public Transport

  • There is not a bus stop within approximately 150m of the site.
  • Stagecoach bus 39 from Exeter or Newton Abbot. Country Bus 193 runs between Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot via Hay Tor Wednesday and Friday (except Public Holidays). Country Bus 271 runs during the summer only and Country Bus 671 runs on Wednesdays.
  • The nearest train station is Newton Abbot.
  • Newton Abbot train station is approximately 6.5 miles away.

Parking

  • This site has a car park.
  • This is an open air car park with a tarmac surface.
  • Parking is free for National Trust members and Blue Badge holders, but charges apply for all other visitors.
  • There are clearly presented payment signs.
  • Maps and information boards are available.
  • There are 4 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • There is no hatched zone.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: slopes/ramps and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • The dimensions of the surveyed electric vehicle charging bay designated for Blue Badge holders are 440cm x 360cm.
  • There is a designated drop-off point which is flush to the footpath.
  • The drop-off point is on the main path outside the café. The Blue Badge Bays vary in size.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • Equipment cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Walled Garden and Estate)

  • From the car park turn right down the hill and continue for approximately 100 metres.
    The walled garden is on the left.
    The estate is ahead from the walled garden and further down the hill.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Walled Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located off the road from the car park.
  • Access into the area is via steps.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
  • The gate is not self-closing.
  • The width of the gap is 83cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: bonded gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • The steep slopes are around the edges of the garden.
    There are steps along the edges of the garden.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • There are 2 benches along the top path, and a seating area near the polytunnel which is available for use when staff and volunteers are not working in the garden.

Outdoor Spaces (Estate)

Toilet with Adaptations (Toilet Block - Ambulant - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located within the toilet block.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 80cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 173cm x 228cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 78cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the non transfer side.
