Parking (Simon's Wood Car Park)

- This is an open air car park with a compacted earth surface.

There is a road to cross to reach the Finchampstead Ridges access point.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located off Wellingtonia Avenue.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, compact earth, uncompacted earth and wood.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- The land at the top of the ridge, which is closest to the access point, has some slight slopes and uneven surfaces.
Further away from the access point, all the ground descends steeply down the side of the ridges, with very uneven and sometimes very muddy ground. - There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.
- There are some horse gates (to prevent riders and cyclists from entering) leading off from the main path at the bottom of the ridges.
Hikes and Trails (Finchampstead Ridges Walk)
- The walk is approximately 1.35 miles long.
- From Simon's Wood Car Park, take the path along Wellingtonia Avenue to Finchampstead Ridges.
Enter Finchampstead Ridges at the main access point by the Direction Dial.
Go ahead to the view point at the top of the ridges, then return for a short time along the path and follow the marked path on the right.
The path heads steeply downhill to Spout Pond.
Here, turn right along the bridleway to the second horse gate on the right, and re-enter the woodland.
Head back up the ridges, then turn to the right before Wellingtonia Avenue, ending back at the access point. - The walk is open 24 hours.
- None of the paths are lit at night.
- The route includes the following surfaces: grass, wood and mud.
- Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
- These are found in the following areas: the paths heading up or down the ridges.
- There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
- The route is clearly signposted.
- The route has information boards with large maps and online maps.
- Seating is available on the route.
- There are no toilet facilities along the route.
